Latest News
(Updated
25th January)
As you will all now be aware, the Trustees have stopped us from parking
around the track, meaning that everyone now has to park in the unlit top car
park. I met with RJS last week to discuss this and other issues. He has agreed
to trial for one month allowing the key holders to park down at the track, as
long as they remain on the hard standing with their cars. He has also allowed us
to let any of our disabled members to park down at the facilities, this is to be
decided upon by the Club.
The current key holders are:
Paul Gair /
Ted Grey /
Pat Carlan /
Richard Massey /
Barry Holmes.
As you can see all the key holders except for Barry are active coaches, so this
means they will be unable to monitor the barrier once their training has
started. We were looking at Barry stopping at the barrier for the first half
hour or so, on a training night to allow access to relevant members, but due to
unforeseen circumstances he won’t be at training for a while. So what I’m
looking for is someone that is willing to have a key for the barrier and control
access for the start of training. If there is anyone willing to do this can they
let me know so that I can sort out a key for them.
You will all also be pleased to know that the public toilets appear to be up and
working again.
Regards
Paul Gair

Dear
Members
There may be some of you who look at the last 12 months as a bit of annablis
horriblis for the club, but me, I look back and think, how well we have done.
Again our athletes have done the club proud with many County and National medals
and National and International representations. We have had a number of our
coaches and volunteers winning achievement awards through various presentation
ceremonies. We have increased our number of active coaches and even increased
our membership numbers. All with very little facilities.
We have been unfortunate to get relegated in some of our leagues, but again I
feel this is an opportunity for the club to rebuild itself and come out fighting
and prove to everyone that WE ARE THE BEST CLUB IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE….!!%*^”*
………………sorry fell off the soapbox.
Since becoming Chairman in November, I’ve visited the National x-country event
we staged and was very proud to see what a wonderfully organised and run event
was taking place in some horrible weather, someone said to me that day “this is
what x-country is all about”. Now
I see why I am a throws coach….I have also been to watch the sportshall event a
couple of weeks ago and again it was great to watch some of our up and coming
athletes performing for the club and it was especially good to see so many
parents there supporting their kids. Next
xmas sportshall I want to see more parents doing the egg and spoon race... and
only this week I watched many of our members packing bags to raise money for the
club and not one of them moaned to me, well
apart from the trolley that was packed with a bill that came to over £200 and
then never put anything in the collection box…..
So I say to everyone, I am proud to say I’m a member of Mansfield Harriers &
Athletics Club.
I feel that over the next 12 months there will be some smiles and some tears,
some joy and some sadness, there will probably be some tough choices to make,
but I strongly believe that if we face it together as a club united that we can
deal with it all with our heads held high.
There will be some further notices coming out soon, but as an advanced warning,
some dates for your diaries:
January
31st
Club AGM Berry Hill
school
approximately 7pm onwards
January 3rd
Last date to submit proposals for the AGM – please
submit all proposals to me at paul.gair@ntlworld.com all proposals will be made public
at least 2 weeks before the AGM.
I would like you all to consider that our club is run solely by volunteers, I
have already been informed that some members of the committee will be standing
down at the next AGM. Do you feel that you would like to be more involved with
the club, maybe you have your own skills or ideas that you could bring to the
club, do you fancy having a go at coaching or officiating, being a team manager
or a volunteer, even driving mini buses to the various competitions. If you do,
or even if you aren’t sure what you want to do but you know you want to help
somehow, then please get in touch and I’ll answer any questions I can, or I’ll
at least put you in touch with someone who will know the answers.
Right that’s enough ranting and raving.
I
would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and hope you all achieve your
targets are for 2012.
Paul Gair

IMPORTANT message from the Chairman:-
As the new chairman of the club I’m afraid I have some bad news to give
to the members. On the 14th November
the Trustees sent me a letter. Due to reasons beyond the control of the
club, the trustees are closing the athletics buildings again. All that
we will have access to, will be the track and the brick toilet block.
This decision they have taken is not a reflection on anything that the
club or its members have done. The trustees are reducing the monthly
cost to the club for the use of the track, I am trying to get this quote
reduced further as a sign of good faith between the club and the
Trustees.
I am also in the process of trying to organise a meeting between RJS,
Chris Mallender for England Athletics, Graeme Beaumont for Sport
England and myself as a representative of the club. As soon as I have
any further information I will get it sent out to the members.
I’m sorry again for having to bring you all this bad news, but rest
assured, I’m working hard to try to resolve this in the interests of the
club.
Following the previous Info some good things to look forward to!

Are you
easyfundraising yet?
It’s
the easiest way to help raise money for Mansfield Harriers Athletics Club! If
you already shop online with retailers such as Amazon, M&S, Argos, John Lewis,
Comet, Vodafone, eBay, Boden and Play.com, then we need you to sign up for free
to raise money while you shop!
So how does it work?
You shop directly with the retailer as you would normally, but if you sign up to www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/mhac for
free and use the links on the easyfundraising site to take you to the retailer,
then a percentage of whatever you spend comes directly to Mansfield Harriers at
no extra cost to yourself.
More details attached, but I raised
£1.30 yesterday buying a £30 pair of shoes! So what other reason do I need to
shop! - Becky

information from Meeting
Dear Member(s),
On behalf of the Committee I would like to thank all those who attended last
night, gave apologies or sent messages of support. I have attached the notes
from the meeting for your inspection, but in summary the Trust have delayed the
Club's eviction from Berry Hill Park until 28th October and have invited 5 Club
Committee Members to attend 5 mediated meetings with the Trust, over the next
six weeks. With the aim to resolving the situation. During the meeting several
members asked about various documents if anyone wishes copies of any of the
publically available information please contact me (Becky) and I will do my best
to forward these to you.
